Privacy Policy
How Africa Latency Ltd collects, uses, shares and protects personal data when you use AfricaLatency.
1. Who we are
Africa Latency Ltd is the entity responsible for AfricaLatency. Our address is 1 Parklands Ave, Nairobi 00623, Kenya. For privacy questions or requests relating to your personal data, contact support@africalatency.dev.
2. Personal data we collect
Depending on how you use the site, we may collect:
- Contact and enquiry data: name, email address, phone number, company or platform information, and the message or other information you choose to submit.
- Diagnostic and scan data: the public domain or target you ask us to measure, selected measurement type and probe location, measurement results, timestamps, and technical information needed to operate, secure and rate-limit the diagnostic service. The diagnostic service may process your IP address for rate limiting and abuse prevention.
- Service and account data: information necessary to provide requested services, support, reports, authentication or customer access where applicable.
- Analytics data: if you accept analytics, we use Plausible Analytics to understand aggregate site usage and improve the site. Plausible is designed to operate without cookies and without collecting personal data for analytics.
- Technical data: basic server, browser, device, security and network information that may be generated when requests reach our hosting or application infrastructure.
3. How we use personal data
We use personal data only for purposes connected with operating and improving AfricaLatency and providing requested services, including to:
- respond to enquiries and support requests;
- provide requested scans, diagnostics, audits and reports;
- prevent abuse, fraud, excessive automated requests and unauthorized use;
- maintain site security, reliability and functionality;
- understand aggregate site usage and improve our services where analytics consent has been given;
- meet legal, regulatory, accounting or contractual obligations; and
- protect our rights, users, systems and services where reasonably necessary.
4. Lawful basis
Depending on the activity, processing may be based on your consent, the steps needed to provide a service you request, our legitimate interests in operating and securing the service, or a legal obligation. Where we rely on consent, you may withdraw it for future processing by using the available consent controls or contacting us.
5. Diagnostic scans and third parties
AfricaLatency diagnostics may use third-party infrastructure and measurement providers to perform requested measurements. A scan can involve sending the public target you provide and measurement instructions to a diagnostic provider such as Globalping. We do not use the diagnostic tool to authorize access to private systems, and you must only request testing of systems you are authorized to test.
We may also use service providers for hosting, databases, email delivery, security, analytics and other technical operations. These providers may process data on our behalf and are expected to handle it according to applicable agreements and law. We do not sell personal data.
6. International processing and transfers
Some service providers may process data outside Kenya. Where personal data is transferred outside Kenya, we will take the measures required by applicable data protection law, including appropriate safeguards or consent where required.
7. Cookies and analytics
We do not intentionally use advertising cookies on AfricaLatency. Our analytics choice is Plausible Analytics. Plausible states that its standard analytics is cookieless and does not require a consent banner. We nevertheless provide an analytics consent banner on this site and do not load the analytics script until you accept analytics.
Your analytics preference is stored locally in your browser using local storage so that we can remember whether you accepted or rejected analytics. This preference is not itself an analytics cookie. You can change the preference using the Cookie settings control in the site footer.
8. Data retention
We retain personal data only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose for which it was collected, to provide services, resolve disputes, maintain security, comply with legal obligations, or establish and defend legal claims. Retention periods can therefore vary by data type and service. When data is no longer required, we will take reasonable steps to delete, anonymize or securely dispose of it, subject to applicable legal requirements.
9. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures intended to protect personal data against unauthorized access, loss, misuse, alteration or disclosure. No internet service can guarantee absolute security, and you should avoid submitting sensitive information that is not necessary for the service requested.
10. Your data protection rights
Subject to applicable law and any lawful limitations, you may have rights including the right to be informed about processing, access your personal data, object to processing, request correction of inaccurate data, request deletion or erasure where applicable, request restriction or portability where applicable, and withdraw consent where processing is based on consent.
To exercise a right, email support@africalatency.dev. We may need to verify your identity before responding to a request. You also have the right to seek assistance or lodge a complaint with the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner in Kenya.
11. Children's data
AfricaLatency is a professional technology service and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly request personal data from children for independent use of the service.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy when our services, processing activities or legal obligations change. The latest version will be published on this page with its effective date.
